ACT uses the Trailforks platform to map and share data about its single-track trails. While the Trailforks mobile app started out as a free service, they quickly implemented a "pro" subscription service for users wanting offline mapping and navigation.
ACT strongly recommends using the Trailforks app when recreating in any region, but we understand that many users may not want to pay an annual subscription. The good news is that you can still use the majority of the app's features (following a 14-day free trial) by setting up your "free area". Establishing this will allow the app to perform offline mapping and navigation in the area that you specify. We recommend setting it to Tabor; because why go anywhere else?
Before you begin, it's important to note the following:
You get two opportunities to set a free area. After that, you're stuck with it.
Free areas are not necessary if you've purchased a pro subscription. You will have unlimited access to the global Trailforks network.
It is not necessary to have a Trailforks account to complete this process, but we strongly recommend it so you can upload trail reports and ride logs.
In order to set Tabor Mountain Recreation Trails as your free area, make sure the app is installed and running on your mobile device. During the initial set up, you may be asked to download a region. Downloading a region (like British Columbia) is not the same as setting a free area.
Step 1 | Step 2 | Step 3 |
From the main menu, open the settings panel and look for an option to "Set Free Area". | After tapping that option, pan/zoom the green square until it covers the entire Tabor Mountain area (as shown below). | Confirm that Tabor Mountain is your favourite riding spot and tap save again! |
Congratulations! After following these steps, your app should be configured to work with Tabor Mountain FOR FREE! The final step is to get out an shred.
